| dc.description.abstract | Background: Instrumental vaginal deliveries are defined as vaginal delivery accomplished with the aid of Instruments which can be vacuum or forceps. It is carried out in the maternal interest, fetal interest or both. Complications during Instrumental vaginal deliveries represent a substantial burden to the health system and the prevention of such complications should be a health care priority in developing countries through training and supply of appropriate equipment. However no study was done so far to assess complications of Instrumental vaginal deliveries and associated factors in Gelemso hospital; despite the fact that it is the most commonly performed obstetric procedure. Objective: To assess perinatal and maternal complications of Instrumental vaginal deliveries and associated factors in Gelemso hospital, Eastern Ethiopia from July 15-20 2018 GC Method: Hospital based retrospective cross sectional study design was conducted using a structured data collecting format, patients‟ medical records documented on the respective logbooks. The total sample size was 245 in two year‟s period. Simple random sampling technique was used to select patient card. The data was collected from July 15-20 2018. The Data to be collected was entered, cleaned and analyzed using SPSS version 20; to asses complication of instrumental vaginal delivery. Bivariate and multivariate analysis was conducted to identify the factor associated with complication of instrumental vaginal delivery. Finally statistical significance was declared at p<0.05. Result In the study period 28.5% of instrumental vaginal delivery was complicated, of this maternal complication takes the lead, accounts for 55 (22.4%). Episiotomy extension was the leading maternal complication, 28 (11.4%) and Instrumental marks and bruising as commonest fetal complication (4.9% of all fetal complications) Conclusions type of instrumental vaginal delivery, number of pregnancy, mod of delivery were significantly associated with feto maternal complications Recommendation Discussion to minimize those practices associated with complication and clear facility based indications and pre request should available | en_US |
