| dc.description.abstract | Background: Vacuum delivery is an emergency obstetrical procedure in which active measure is taken to accomplish delivery when maternal or fetal complication arise. Objective: To determine the proportion of vacuum delivery and associated factors among women who gave birth at HiwotFana Specialized University Hospital, Harar Town, Eastern Ethiopia, from February 1-15, 2018 Methods: A facility based retrospective record review study was conducted from 1st January to 31st December, 2017. The study was done onselected five hundred forty eight charts of delivered womenat Hiwot Fana Specialized University Hospital.Systematical sampling technique was used to select charts of clients. Data was collected by using checklist prepared for this purpose. The collected data was checked for completeness and then entered in to Epi data version 3.1 for data editing or cleaning and analyzed by using SPSS version 20 software package. Bivariate and Multivariate logistic regression model was used for analysis. Results:The proportion of vacuum delivery was 8.6 %( 95% CI: 6.6%-11%). Null Para(para 0) (AOR: 95% CI, 4.25(1.19, 15.2),Gestational age >=42 wks (AOR: 95% CI, 4.6(1.05, 20), Male sex (AOR: 95% CI, 2.6 (1.18, 5.76) and Using Partograph (AOR: 95% CI, 2.27(1.12, 4.85) were significantly associated with vacuum delivery. Conclusion: The proportion of vacuum delivery in this study is high. Null parity(para 0), Gestational age >=42wks (post- term), Male sex and Using Partograph are significantly associated predictors of vacuum delivery. Health care providers should give emphasis to nulliparous and post term women and should give emphasis to use partograph to follow labor. | en_US |
