Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of stretching and strength exercises on speed,
power and flexibility of male volleyball players of chelenko preparatory school. The sample of this
study was 20 volleyball players of Chelenko preparatory school and the subjects were selected by
using purposive sampling technique. A quesi experimental research designed used for providing
pre-test, during-test and post-test in order to identify the effect of stretching and strength
exercises on speed, power and flexibility of male volleyball players. There is no a control group in
this study. The data were analyzed by using basic descriptive statistics. The significance of
differences between measurements was evaluated with “paired sample T-test” and computerized
statistical package software for social science (SPSS) version 20 at p<0.05%.According to
analyzed data, The mean value for speed test pre training was 8 ±1.55, during training test
results was 5.59±1.4 m/sec and post training result was 3.655±.594m/sec.The mean difference
value decreased by 4.345m/sec (P=0.00).The mean value for vertical jump test pre training was
41.95 ±8.325 cm, during training test results was 49.6±8.689cm and post training result was
58.2000±9.39541 cm. The mean difference value increased by 16.25 cm (P=0.000). The mean
value of pre training test results of sit and reach test was 4.775±1.576 inches, during training test
mean value result was 7.6±1.18766 inch and post training test mean value result of SRTwas
8.9500±1.39454 inches. The mean difference value increased by 4.175 inches (P=0.000)after 8
week stretching and strength exercises program. The results showed significant changes in all of
variables used to evaluate power, speed andflexibility. Vertical jump performance showed
increased tendencies. So this study conclude that consecutive 8 weeks stretching and strength
exercise program was effective in improving speed, power, and improving flexibility of male
volley ball players.
