Abstract:
The main objective of the study was to investigate the factors affecting the performance of short
distance runners: the case of Dire Dawa athletics project Dire Dawa city administration, 
Ethiopia. Data was collected through questionnaire, interview and observation Checklist. 63 
respondents participated as the source of data. 55 Athletes, 6 coaches, 2 administrative officials 
were participated in the study. The designer of the study was qualitative and quantitative the 
descriptive survey method was used. The collected data were organized, analyzed, tabulated and 
interpreted using simple percentage. This means that, we have to divide the value by the total 
value and then multiply the resultant by 100 (simple percentage = (value/Total value)*100). As 
far as major findings of the study are concerned, significant majority of the respondents stated 
their view and there is a problem of social relationship between athlete and coach, nutritional 
factors, environmental factors and psychological factors. The result obtained in this study 
indicated that there was not good performance in three selected athletics project group. The 
study concluded that the factors affecting the performance of short distance runner’s athletics 
project of the target group. The finding indicates that joining one team without performance 
affects the training negatively, none. Based on the finding, the researcher recommended that it is 
quite clear that further research is necessary on the athlete of” factor affecting the performance 
of the short distance runner athlete training program on the performance related physical 
components in the athletics project, in both sex and in different age categories
